Why?
I created You Are Your Art (YAYA) as a response to burnout.
I was stuck in survival mode and feeling frustrated that expression, clarity, and connection were disrupted by practical concerns like, oh I don’t know, paying rent and buying groceries. Then I began to meditate more on the correlation between creativity and motion.
For as long as I could remember, songs and solutions have come to me during physical activities: horseback riding, walking, driving, showering, yoga, washing dishes, sanding a deck by hand…and so on. Even though I was still answering to capitalism’s demands, it was often when my mind was relaxed and I was present and focused on something else that the muse found me.
The world we live in now was borne of older generations’ imaginations, for better or for worse. This is actually great news, because it means we are capable of dreaming up a more supportive, encouraging, fertile reality for ourselves, our loved ones, and those who have yet to arrive. Sitting at a desk for ten hours a day beneath fluorescent lighting is not doing anyone any favors, nor is a day to day that lacks structure and purpose.
We begin with the body, a source of wisdom that will illuminate naked truths often drowned in the noise of the frightened collective or trampled underfoot by our own competitive, scarcity-driven egos. Creativity and healthy optimism can flourish when the body moves through the perceived limitations of the mind and releases trapped emotions. Once you tap back into that flow, you will be able to find your way home to what your heart and soul most long for.
